In a twist of sorts, actress Sruthi Hariharan, who began her showbiz journey as a background dancer and inched her way up to lead roles, makes her filmi comeback playing a dancer. The as-yet-untitled thriller is being directed by actor Surya Vasishtha, who she has known since her Lucia days.
Talking about the film, Surya says, “This is a film that I had written a while ago. I had, in fact, pitched it to Sruthi way back in 2016, and she had agreed to be a part of it. Unfortunately, the film did not take off then. And then Sruthi got busy with other commitments, marriage and motherhood. Now that she is set to return to films, I am glad that we are also ready to roll and Sruthi gets to play the protagonist in it. She plays a dancer named Maya, who is also a realist. The film has an ensemble cast that includes Deepak Subramanya, Shweta Gupta, Ravi Bhat, Ram Manjjonath, Pruthvi Banwasi and me. The story follows the emotional journeys, turmoils and the path to closure for these characters.”
The film, adds Surya, will go on floors once it is safe to shoot again, given the current Coronavirus pandemic. “Ravi Kashyap, who backed Lucia, Sulle Sathya and Badmaash, is part of the project. We have Aparajith composing music for the film. We are looking at finishing the film in one extended schedule by May end if all goes as per our plans,” reveals Surya, adding that this will be an indie film made with a minimal crew.
